A day among the flowers

Hey friends!

We’re beginning to get increasingly closer to all the beautiful flowers being in bloom and I thought I’d share some recent clicks of pretty flowers I’ve taken. Some from my garden and some from the wild and I wanted to take you guys along with me so you can enjoy the relaxing atmosphere and pretty plants too!

It wasn’t until I sat to look over my photos that I realised I’d been focusing on pink flowers! I hope these photos bring as much joy to your day as much as they did mine.

Its funny I hadn’t realised just how many plants are pink!

Starting off my wildflower quest is a little light pink Scabious, I love these and am actually growing about a dozen of these plants in my Wildspace, as long as you cut the faded heads off they flower all summer long and the butterflies love them.

My absolute favourite garden centre in the world is the Duchy of Cornwall Nursery – they have beautiful plants, one hell of a gift shop and make great coffee. These roses are amazing they have a Jackson Pollock quality to them, I don’t actually know enough about how to care for roses to justify buying them!

This was actually taken last summer but I had to include it in this post, echinacea are one of my favourite flowers and sadly I didn’t cut this one back low enough and it died over winter. I try not to get too upset if they die, its like plant hunger games in the garden during the wet season (which feels like October to May!)

Cow parsley is a rather lovely weed with asymmetric flower heads, it grows in abundance in this part of the world, when I was a kid my mum told me it was called tiger repellant – hence why you don’t see tigers in the wild here, it was something my grandfather started…even now I can’t help but think about the lack of wild tigers when I see it.

Last year I gently sprinkled a packet of honesty seeds into my Wildspace as they are a food plant for Orange tip caterpillars, I didn’t think any of them would actually grown as these plants have quite a long germination process but I’m thrilled that sone of them grew nice and tall and are covered with pretty flowers, FWIW the leaves look a bit like nettle but don’t sting and are quite spongy to touch.

Its a bit weird but I’m really having a good go at growing thistles because a) I love them and b) they are a great food plant for Painted lady caterpillars.

Recently I got to sit and drink a coffee in the shade of this wonderful wisteria vine, I loved it and am thinking of growing one (or two) in an arch over my front door…or maybe I’ll just get a bench and sit quietly in the shade.

I couldn’t create a post about pink flowers and not include a foxglove, I love how they just stand tall and re-seed at will, my goal is to get them growing out of the wall in my garden because its just such a country garden cliche, despite the fact that they’re poisonous.

I really hope you enjoyed these flowery photos and that they bought a little brightness to your day because they filled me a great amount of positivity and happiness. Next week I’ve got a new butterfly One frame to share!

As always thank you so much for reading my friends, and have a lovely week!

  1. These are lovely, especially the thistle one, with the bee on top. You are so lucky to have sun in your garden to be able to grow flowers like this. We have so much shade so I will have to live vicariously. 😄

    1. Thank you so very much Julie, I’m not great at bee photography so I was pleased with that one! Where I used to live the garden was also very shady so I get very excited about being able to grow things.
