Fleeting thought #8 {Festive traditions and time well spent}

Hello my friends! I hope the festive season is filling you with excitement and wonder!!

Before we start this post I just wanted to say that I did truly believe I was going to post this last week and do something cute and artsy this week but my life kinda imploded. I’m not a superstitious person, but I’m a great believer that things come in threes so when I awoke last Friday (the 13th) I found that my heating system had completely broken down and won’t be fixed until after the New Year (it is soooo cold right now!) Later in the day I fell down the stairs – my own fault I wasn’t paying attention, but I was so very very sore and by the time I was able to sit and prep my post I just thought β€˜ya know what its not worth it, it might be the third thing!’ It wasn’t but I was glad I didn’t tempt Fate!

But I’ve decided that I’m a big girl and I’m not going to let the fact I’ve got no heating ruin Christmas as I’ve already got everything more or less sorted, so onto a more festive up beat thing…

DIY Snowflake Gift Wrap Ideas!

Hello my friends!

Happy December!

As we’re finally into the twelfth month I though I’d really get into the festive season with a post on gift wrap and a couple of d.i.y gift tag ideas.

I am unashamedly one of those Christmas freaks who not only tries to get the wrapping done early but likes to have a gentle theme to my gift wrap – be it nature, or glitter, gingerbread men or fairies I like my gifts to look good, this year I decided on snowflakes because a couple of weeks ago we had five inches of snow even if it only lasted a day…we genuinely don’t get enough of the real stuff in winter here and although its so cold its also really pretty.

Winter World Turtle

Hello my friends!!

I said I’d started this painting and here it is!

This weeks post is as the name suggests a Winter World Turtle – and the third World Turtle illustration.

As this one is winter themed I wanted the colours to reflect the time of year – the snow is painted using white ink and acrylic with a very pale ice blue watercolour. There are even some tiny icicles hanging from the turtles’ shell.

I wanted the trees to reflect the time of year so I made a few of them flop to the side – as if they’re weighed down by heavy snow! Its funny we don’t really get β€˜proper’ snow where I live, if we’re lucky winter may grace the area with a very light dusting, but that’s it and its always such a disappointment!!

Festive hand lettering

Hello friends,

Happy December!

As we’ve finally entered the festive month I though I’d share some Christmas Carol themed calligraphy art!

Something I’m trying to do is create a collection of festive themed art – I have a lot of art up around the house and have decided it might be fun to create winter pieces to go in each frame for the holiday season.

Two of my most favourite carols are O come all ye faithful and The Holly and the Ivy, which I’ve turned into A4 sized pieces in traditional festive colours.

I love Christmas music – not necessarily the pop stuff, but the old school carols and folk stuff and having it on in the background while I’m making last minute gifts or decorations is always lovely, ideally I really like to have festive music playing in the background as soon as it hits December 1st.

Anyway that it for this week! I hope you like my festive hand lettering. I’m thinking of maybe trying some tutorials for calligraphy next year. Would anyone be interested in that?

And as always thanks for reading and happy December.

The Grim Squeaker At Hogswatch

Happy Christmas!

On this beautiful Christmas Eve I’d like to wish everyone a truly Merry Christmas and a Happy Hogswatch, this is a little illustration of the Grim Squeaker (AKA The Death of Rats) from Terry Pratchett’s who appears throughout the Discworld series from Reaper Man onwards. I’ve drawn him as the Hogfather to celebrate 50 years of Terry.

I hope all of your dreams come true.

Mind how you go!
