Speckled Wood butterfly {One frame}

Hey friends!

I’ve got a little one frame to share with you this week, lets be honest it wasn’t going to be long before butterflies took over the theme of my posts again was it! I was actually planning to post some new bug illustrations I’ve been working on but this little guy (or girl) fluttered into the garden a couple of days ago.

He or she is a Speckled Wood (Pararge aegeria) butterfly – which looked freshly emerged and sat perching on the leaves at the bottom of my apple tree! Although I spent a good half hour chasing it!

Aren’t the colours just lovely!!

Apparently these ones feed on honeydew in the treetops and aren’t often seen feeding on flowers

I really hope you like this photo and that my nature filled posts spread a little bit of happiness. Do you have a favourite bug? They are magical creatures and I love watching them.

As always thanks for reading and have a wonderful week!

Ps. Honeydew is a sugary sticky liquid that is secreted by aphids and other bugs which feed on plant sap (which is kinda gross!).
