Hello my friends!
Back in the autumn I posted a One frame of a rare Grayling and I wanted to create a needlework version for my butterfly challenge. My actual plan was to post this a couple of weeks before Christmas but everything got a little bit on top of me and I never got round to it.
It was awesome to see a basically endangered species just living its best life out in the wild!
These butterflies have a real life wingspan of up to 6cm and as it aways rests with its wings together which is a shame as theyβve got such pretty markings! I created a male as thereβs very little difference between the two sexes.

This needlework Grayling has a wingspan of about 12cm and its #11 of my needlework butterfly quest, I think I’m getting the hang of using wire to give the wings form. Now weβve got past Christmas I’m going to put in the effort to finally create a display for them all – I’m thinking either large deep picture frames so that they look like a collection of pinned βdeadβ butterflies or creating an indoor βtreeβ by hanging some branches from the ceiling and decorating it with faux ivy and dried flowers so that the butterflies look βaliveβ.
Iβm kinda leaning more towards the tree idea to be honest.
Well that’s it for this week…do you have a favourite butterfly? Iβm hoping that you enjoyed this post and that youβll stay with me on my butterfly creating adventure. Thank you so much for checking this out and I wish you a wondrous week ahead!
Ps. If you want to have a look at my other butterflies theyβre HERE!

It’s great that you were able to see the Grayling out in the wild and what a nice way to honour it. The way you have used the browns and creams is really lovely.
